4 Weeks Before: Utilities, Mail, Schools, and Records

This is the most location-specific part of the move. Utility responsibilities differ between Herriman, South Jordan, and Daybreak, and school assignment depends on the exact address.

Rocky Mountain Power provides an online start, stop, or move-service process and typically processes requests within one to two business days. Internet availability can differ by street, development phase, building, or even unit—confirm with the exact address using the FCC National Broadband Map and provider address checks.

Submit Your USPS Change of Address

Submit the official USPS change-of-address request. Keep the confirmation information in your moving folder. Decide whether the change applies to one individual, an entire family, or a business. Notify important senders directly rather than waiting for forwarded mail. Update government agencies and companies separately.

USPS allows a change-of-address request up to 90 days before the effective date and recommends notifying regular senders at least two weeks before moving. Start at the official USPS change-of-address page.

Prepare for School Enrollment

Use the current address-based boundary locator. Contact the assigned school before withdrawing from the current school when possible. Gather proof of residency. Keep the parent or guardian’s picture identification accessible. Keep the student’s original or certified birth certificate accessible. Gather current immunization records. Request transcripts for older students where applicable. Collect IEP, 504, gifted-program, language-support, transportation, or other relevant records. Update emergency contacts and authorized pickup information.

South Jordan is within Jordan School District. Use the current address-based boundary locator rather than assuming a school from a neighborhood name or nearby listing.

2 Weeks Before: Change the Accounts People Forget

The USPS form is only one part of changing an address. This is the stage to update the places that will keep shipping, billing, or notifying the old address unless you change them one by one.

When you think you are finished, complete these four checks:

Search your email for “shipped,” “delivery,” “renewal,” “statement,” “appointment,” and “subscription.”
Review the saved addresses in your phone, browser, digital wallet, and frequently used shopping applications.
Review the last two months of bank and credit-card transactions for recurring services.
Check every active auto-ship order individually.

Most people forget this: Changing the default shipping address does not always update an existing recurring order. Open active subscriptions and future deliveries one by one.

Moving Week: Confirm, Pack, and Protect

Moving week should be about confirmation—not discovering an account, document, or access problem for the first time.

Confirm the Logistics

Reconfirm the mover’s date, arrival window, payment method, and contact person. Confirm the utility activation dates. Confirm when the old services will stop. Contact the Daybreak Community Association if the account-transfer or resident-registration process is incomplete. Create or confirm the resident-portal account. Review current amenity-access instructions. Confirm dues and payment setup. Confirm whether a sub-association account is also required. Review guest parking, exterior, landscaping, waste-container, pet, and storage rules that affect daily life.

Daybreak maintains an official association website and resident portal for governing documents, dues, community information, and resident services. Amenity registration has its own process—confirm the current instructions rather than relying on a previous resident’s setup.

Herriman and South Jordan each publish pet-licensing and new-resident information. Confirm the current process for your city before assuming the same form or fee applies in both places.

The First 60 Days in Utah: Vehicle, License, and Voter Tasks

This section is specifically for new Utah residents. Vehicle registration and driver licensing are handled by different state divisions and should not be treated as one shared deadline.

Vehicle Title and Registration

Utah DMV states that new residents are allowed 60 days to transfer their vehicle titles and registrations. A VIN inspection is generally required for a vehicle being titled in Utah. Review the current requirements on the Utah DMV site.

Review the new-resident vehicle requirements. Gather the title, registration, identification, and other required documents. Determine whether a VIN inspection is required. Schedule or complete the registration process within the applicable 60-day period. Update the vehicle address with the insurer.

Driver License or State ID

The Utah Driver License Division maintains a separate out-of-state transfer process. Applicants may need original or certified documentation proving identity, Social Security number, and Utah residency. Start with the Utah DLD requirements for your situation.

Review the correct out-of-state-transfer requirements. Gather acceptable original or certified documents. Gather the required Utah proof-of-address documents. Schedule the appropriate Driver License Division appointment.

Already have a Utah license or state ID and only changed addresses? Utah DLD says the address must be updated with the division within 10 days; it does not require purchasing a replacement card solely for an address change.

Voter Registration

Utah’s voter portal allows eligible residents to register or update an address, name, or party affiliation. Election-specific deadlines can vary, so use the official vote.utah.gov portal for current information.

Register to vote or update the residential address. Confirm the ballot mailing address. Check the current voter status and polling information.

Local Donation, Reuse, and Disposal Resources

Do not load a vehicle before confirming that the destination accepts the items you have. Donation hours, capacity, pickup availability, and accepted items can change.

The local ReStore focuses on home-related goods rather than every type of household donation. Check its current acceptance list before transporting a large piece.

Best for: Residential paint, solvents, cleaning chemicals, pesticides, fuels, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, used oil, antifreeze, and other accepted household hazardous materials.

Never place leaking, unidentified, or prohibited materials in ordinary household trash. Confirm current accepted materials before loading.
